My Maternal Grandfather

Engel means "angel" in both French and German.
The family however, is Alsatian in original nationality.
AlSace-Lorraine is a country that ceased to exist after WWI.
The region is now two seperate provinces in northwestern France
- and borders on Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, and Switzerland.
