This game is almost as old as the Universe itself - played by the Gods (and later their children) as a sort of historical reference.
While the exact origins of Chess, Chinese Checkers and Othello (etc.) remain a mystery, it seems obvious where they got the idea.
In the beginning there were very few stars in the Universe, and their arrangement was very ordered
- seven Constellations total, of seven Systems each
... the realm of the first three parent species of all sentient life:
where the First Ones did roam.
Each born of Fire, they scattered to either side - each based on one of the remaining primary elements: Land, Sea and Air.
These original four elements, Earth, Water, Wind, and Fire ... we know today as states of matter: Solid, Liquid, Gas and Plasma
- and most beings in the Universe alive now are made up of "elements" of all four.
The Universe was indeed a wonderful place - each System hosting a pair of worlds especially friendly to each species.
Inbetween the Constellations were Nebulae, and on the outer edge were Black Holes - a total of six of each.
As they began to breed, they realized the Universe would soon become too small a place
- and what of the Secondary and Tertiary Species they knew were soon to come?
Thus, they devised a plan to expand the Universe beyond its original natural bounds.
The first to become One with Fire evolved to divinity,
and thereby became a Pantheon: creating six Secondary Constellations above the seven original
- and the second, created six below.
The third was to manifest two massive Constellations
larger than anyone had ever seen, above and below the new creations
- while the children of those that had gone before were busy creating the Zodiac,
twelve full inter-relating Constellations surrounding the whole shebang.
