NGC 6960
Western Veil
a tiny portion of
The Veil Nebula
a supernova remnant approximately 7000 years old
about 1500 light years away in the constellation Cygnus.
It is continually expanding, currently 100 light years across,
appearing 6 times the size of the sun or moon from our location.

The galaxy is approximately 100,000 light years in diameter,
thus this one nebula relatively close by at only 1.5% width,
and relatively tiny at 0.1% diameter compared to the galaxy.

Over the next
several billion years or so,
its incalculable volume of gas and dust
will mix with countless other nebulae that it encounters
in its many 300 million year orbits around the center of the galaxy
all the while containing and collecting even more dormant building blocks of life
eventually forming stars and planets, many of which may even be very much like our own.
